About Us
Established in 1946 as a local general store, Hanalei Liquor Store slowly evolved into a grocery store, then a Liquor Store. Dora Ching Morishige ran the store and is remembered as being very accommodating; even having a bell to ring for after hour sales of ice cream and other late night snacks.
In 1972, the store was handed down to her daughter, Judy Wakumoto. She was the fourth of her six children. Judy moved back from California where she was a teacher. Judy and her husband, Denis ran the store through the quiet times and endured the physical and economic damage of two major Hurricanes. After the last of the their kids moved away from home, it was time for their daughter, Nicole to come home and help run the family business.
In 2005, Nicole moved back from Oahu to help Judy run the store. In 2010, Nicole and her husband Jay began rejuvenating this iconic store. They continue to improve its offering to make it an essential stop when coming in or going out of Hanalei town.
